The Lyell Desk follows the same design cues as our Lyell Console table. We achieve the floating effect by raising the top off the base by a quarter inch along with setting the cross piece back two inches — so it’s mostly out of view. This all helps to keep the focus on the beautiful wood top. Which, by the way, was once part of the original Transbay Terminal in San Francisco. These Douglas fir pilings were driven 40 feet into the earth where they remained for some 75 years. The mineral-rich soil gave this material its unique gray coloration. Now they’ve been given a new life as a desk, which you can proudly call your own.
