The nice thing about making everything custom is that it allows us to make small refinements along the way. In this case, we juiced up our original Lyell Console design by adding a lower glass shelf. This half-inch thick glass complements the visual weight of the top and gives it a touch of elegance that makes it perfectly suitable for a more formal living space. This table could comfortably reside in a dining room, entryway or behind a sleek modern sofa. But what really gets us excited is the wine-stained, reclaimed redwood top. We even used a wheel sander to slightly raise the grain and help accentuate the detail in the wood. This material was once part of 14-foot tall wine tanks used at the Rodney Strong Winery in Sonoma, California. Over the years the red wine soaked into the wood and left an amazingly beautiful deep burgundy color. We then paired it with a steel base that’s etched in a rich, dark gray patina.
